The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a partnership of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), and the undersigned organisations condemn the adoption of legislative amendments by the Georgian Parliament, which effectively curtail and criminalise the legitimate human rights work of civil society in Georgia.
“Authorities in Georgia must end the intimidation of all human rights defenders and uphold their right to engage freely with international human rights mechanisms without fear of reprisals.”
We, members of the Civic Solidarity Platform (CSP), strongly condemn the intimidation tactics undertaken by the State Security Services of Georgia against Mr. Ucha Nanuashvili following the publication of an OSCE report detailing two years of human rights violations and democratic backsliding in the country. We call on authorities to refrain from arbitrary sanctioning of natural persons and organizations critical of government policies and actions.
